It’s a great time to visit the Petting Zoo Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park from August 20th to October 30th because they’re bringing back the “Pony Up!” event. Here, the kids and the kids-at-heart will have the opportunity to get up close with animals such as chickens, rabbits, pigs, ducks and goats.
While that may sound like a lot of fun (and it is!) urgent care from Gilroy reminds those visiting the petting zoo to be mindful of the risk of allergies being triggered. There may be certain people who react severely to animal hair or fur, and in these cases, you should be alert to respond and provide immediate assistance.
Identifying an Allergy Attack
The first thing that you should be aware of when determining if an allergic reaction is taking place is a change in breathing. If it looks like the individual is having difficulty breathing or is sneezing uncontrollably then it’s most likely that they are reacting to the animals present.
If you are the one suffering from the allergy, it is also likely that your throat will feel uncomfortable, you will have difficulty speaking, and a feeling of tightness in your throat will occur, as if your airways are closing.
For these cases, swift response becomes critical because an allergy can cause anaphylactic shock. You may not notice this condition quickly because its symptoms look suspiciously like a regular allergic reaction.
Minor signs of an allergy attack include redness of the face, itchiness, vomiting, dizziness, and swollen lips, tongue or throat.
First Aid Treatment
Should you, or someone you know, suffer from allergies during the Petting Zoo event, administering the right emergency treatment and medication is important. Over-the-counter medications are readily available, such as antihistamines, decongestants, allergy sprays and drops, and many more.
The best thing for you to do, however, is to visit a Gilroy urgent care center, such as U.S. HealthWorks, so that you, or any other patient, can receive immediate relief for the medical issue. The professionals working at the urgent care center should be able to identify what triggered the allergy, and what specific medicines or remedies will be most effective in correcting the problem.
Being able to identify the cause of the allergy is crucial so that you won’t be at risk of it happening again. At the very least, you can take steps to ensure that you will not be exposed to the allergy-triggers, and can enjoy the rest of the experience at the Petting Zoo or elsewhere.
